THURSDAY 26 MARCH
In times of crises, we need a communities of do-gooders! People who support others, share what they have, extend a helping hand and keep beautifying the world. Here are a few basic habits for helping out during this time. Perhaps you have some creative ideas? Share them with us and we will paste them here!
PRAY WITH ME?
Our president called on all South Africans to join in a National Day of Prayer. Let’s take this very seriously as we join in prayer tonight from 18:00-18:30. If you have a prayer for SA, share it with us and we will post it on all social platforms.
SPEND TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY
Many of us will be confronted with those whom we love the most, but sometimes struggle to understand. Why not spend this time building compassion? Remember: everyone thinks they’re enlightened until they spend a week with their family! Play games, tell stories and open yourself up to be the peacekeeper in this time.
WE ALL HAVE KIDS NOW
It takes a village to raise a child. If you’re a teacher or something similar, why not create and share creative ways of keeping kids busy? Parents will have a lot on their hands. So, if you have siblings, take care of them and lessen your Parents’ load. Or, share your know-how and fun games with families in the community.
LETS GO SHOPPING!
Identify Elders in your neighborhood who might need you to do their shopping on their behalf. We know older people are more vulnerable in this time. Send out a simple message to elderly people along the lines of: “Hi there, can I do your shopping for you during this week? Send me your shopping list and I will drop it off in front of your door.”
SHARING IS CARING
Why not use this time to share your knowledge, art, music etc. with your community? Some of my friends started a Facebook group wherein we can find creative ways to share what we have. Find some ideas on this page or create your own.
TYD DATA ONS IETS DOEN
Our friends at Betereinders started a beautiful campaign where we support people in recourse-poor communities with mobile data. We have a network of almost 50000 and will have data on their phone within 48 hours if you donate. This will help people create community and keep in touch with their loved ones. Banking details on the poster below.
CALL A FRIEND
Know someone struggling with mental illness and who might be alone? They need your checking in now more than ever. Perhaps make a simple invite on your social media page: “Hi there, if you want me to check in on you daily, send me your number.” Got this idea from a friend:
